Meet Clay Murray

Originally from Hattiesburg MS, Clay Murray began his early dance training at age 12 at On Your Toes Dance Studio training in Jazz and Contemporary competitions and at South Mississippi Ballet Theatre. At age 16 he moved to Houston, Texas to train under Claudio Munoz and Andrew Murphy at Houston Ballet Academy where he expanded his classical and contemporary movement. At 18, he joined the Professional Division Program at Pacific Northwest Ballet training under Peter Boal and Kiyon Gaines for the Balanchine Aesthetic. Clay has since danced with Boston Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet, and Ballet Rhode Island.

His repertoire includes ballets by George Balanchine, Azure Barton, William Forsythe, José Limón, Trey McIntyre, Mikko Nissinen, Chanel DaSilva, Christopher Wheeldon, Yury Yanowsky, Andi Schermoly, and Helen Pickett. Some of his favorite roles include the Principal Male in Balanchine’s “Allegro Brilliante” and “Who Cares?”, Jester in Yury Yanowsky’s “Cinderella”, and the pas de deux in Helen Pickett’s “When, Love.” He has also choreographed six world premieres for Ballet RI’s company and school. Clay is excited to dance with BalletX to continue growing as a dancer.
