On Friday, March 6, step inside the creative process of one of contemporary ballet’s most influential voices at Inside the Mind of Matthew Neenan, an intimate lecture-demonstration and conversation that brings audiences behind the scenes of BalletX’s artistic evolution. In this special evening, BalletX co-founder Matthew Neenan reveals how his choreography takes shape, from the first spark of an idea to movement on stage. Through reflection, visual examples, and live demonstrations, he will explore his approach to musicality, structure, collaboration with dancers, and the emotional storytelling that defines his work.
Designed for a broad audience, the event welcomes curious community members, BalletX supporters, dance professionals, students, and artists alike. No technical dance knowledge is required. The experience is primarily observational, with opportunities for guided reflection and audience questions, creating a dynamic exchange rather than a traditional performance or class.
The evening also serves as a compelling prelude to BalletX’s upcoming Matthew Neenan Retrospective at Spring Series 2026, offering insight into the scope, evolution, and lasting impact of Matthew Neenan’s choreographic work with the company.
Whether you’re a longtime admirer, a fellow artist, or new to contemporary ballet, Inside the Mind of Matthew Neenan offers an accessible, behind-the-scenes look at the artistry and creative voice that helped shape BalletX from the ground up.
This event is for ages 14+. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
