This June 4-5, BalletX’s Festival at Highmark Mann brings together dance, music, and visual art in The Four Seasons Reimagined, an immersive outdoor experience rooted in creativity, community, and connection. A love letter to Mother Nature, the work unfolds as a living, breathing world shaped by sound, movement, light, and design – and this year, that world extends beyond the stage through a special Artist Series collaboration with Philadelphia-based artist Gina Triplett.
Known for her vibrant, nature-inspired work, Triplett created an original piece that reflects both the spirit of the Festival and the cyclical beauty at the heart of The Four Seasons Reimagined. Rich in color and texture, her work captures the same sense of urgency and wonder found on stage, offering audiences a way to carry the Festival experience with them long after the final curtain.
With an original score performed live by Dan Deacon and his band, world premiere choreography by Trey McIntyre, Jamar Roberts, Morgann Runacre-Temple, and Penny Saunders, and striking design by Emma Kingsbury and Christopher Ash, this open-air production transforms the stage into an ever-evolving landscape. Triplett’s artwork lives within that same world, translating movement and music into a visual language that reflects the beauty, volatility, and rhythm of our planet.
From Artist Gina Triplett:
“When I was in art school, I lived in a Baltimore warehouse that had been split into mixed industrial and creative areas. It was known then as the Copycat. Years after that, a musician caught my ear, and as I got up to speed on him, I learned he lived and created in that same warehouse. That musician was Dan Deacon, and he called it Wham City.
Over the years lots of artists have passed through that building, but the small connection has stuck with me as I’ve enjoyed the musical journey he’s been on.
All that is to say, I came into the project inspired by both Dan Deacon and of course, the work BalletX does in my now longtime home of Philadelphia. From there I focused my intentions on capturing the cyclical beauty of the four seasons in a celebratory manner that lives up to the awe I feel for the natural world around me.”
Triplett’s work captures a spirit of transformation, echoing the rhythm of the seasons and the energy of live performance, and becomes a lasting piece of the Festival experience.
