Meet Julia Ferra

Dance Teaching Artist

Julia Ferra is a teacher and rehearsal director based in Philadelphia. She began her pre-professional training at the Atlantic City Ballet and the Rock School for Dance Education. Julia extended her training at several intensives including at the Miami City Ballet School, Bolshoi Ballet, Ballet Austin, and BalletX. 

Julia graduated summa cum laude from Marymount Manhattan College. She performed works by Elena Comendador, Pascal Rioult, and Jae Man Joo. 

After graduating, Julia worked with Jae Man Joo to set his original works “Beautiful Imperfection” and “Goodnight” on Complexions Contemporary Ballet and the Fordham/Ailey program. She performed with BABEL Movement from 2015-2019, where she became a rehearsal director for the company. Julia remains on staff at BABEL Movement, where she most recently set Sarah Leñador’s new work on Marymount Manhattan College BFA program. 

Julia has been on faculty at Ballet Academy East’s youth program and lead teaching artist at RIOULT’s DanceREACH program. She spent 2 years as the resident dance teacher at SA Harlem North West Middle School before moving back to Philadelphia in 2020. Julia was the founding dance teacher at KIPP North Philadelphia Academy, where she created an elementary dance curriculum and led the arts team. Her goal is to expand arts education in Philadelphia public schools.
