Interview with Loughlan Prior

Keelan Whitmore, BalletX’s Rehearsal Director & Community Liaison, interviews choreographer Loughlan Prior for his world premiere debuting at Summer Series, July 10-21, 2024.

“Today, most people who sing the famously patriotic anthem ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ are unaware of its true origins to the gender bending style of the fabulous Macaronies.” With an original score by composer Claire Cowan and eccentric costume design by Emma Kingsbury, the world of the Macaronies will be brought to life with decadent dance and storytelling.

Described by Dance Aotearoa New Zealand as ‘a creative tour de force’, Loughlan Prior is an award-winning choreographer and creative director. He is the Artistic Director of Lo|Co Arts and Choreographer in Residence at the Royal New Zealand Ballet. With an impressive portfolio of over forty works spanning stage, film and television, his passion for dance-storytelling is at the core of his creative practice.
