Requiem is a remembrance and lament on loss. For me, Mozart’s music gives expression to the most essential matters of our existence: life, love and one of our greatest fears, death. This inspired the images of birth, creation, violence, vulnerability, loss, and acceptance which are imbued throughout the piece. At times we zoom in to encounter a central figure through a series of experiences with loss, in contrast to the mass collective movement of the dancers that is perhaps symbolic of the profound force of nature. Lux Aeterna (Eternal Rest) brings Requiem to a close with a sense of peace, reverence, and surrender.
