BalletX returns to Bryn Mawr College with smash-hit world premieres Big Wig by Marguerite Donlon and Macaroni by Loughlan Prior, plus dazzling original new works by Keelan Whitmore and the BalletX Dancers.
Marguerite Donlon, praised for her “dizzyingly inventive scenes” (Irish Times), creates dynamic and poetic works with a touch of humor. Her world premiere Big Wig, inspired by the Irish dance of her youth and set to an original score by Paul Calderone, embodies transformation through imagination, determination, and courage.
Loughlan Prior‘s Macaroni returns after its acclaimed premiere in BalletX’s 2024 Summer Series. Described as an “outrageous, flamboyant fever dream of a ballet” by The Philadelphia Inquirer, this groundbreaking production revives an overlooked chapter of 18th-century queer history with camp humor, powerful storytelling, and a triumphant celebration of reclaimed pride.
Keelan Whitmore, award-winning dancer, choreographer, and BalletX’s Rehearsal Director & Community Liaison, returns with a new work building on his 2023 premiere I Like You Different. This evocative ballet explores the nuanced dynamics of a relationship seasoned by time, capturing the tenderness, joy, and playful quirks that come with truly knowing and loving someone.
The BalletX Dancers bring a heartfelt and adventurous celebration of world premiere choreography to the stage. Experience their artistry and vision through bold new works by Itzkan Barbosa, Lanie Jackson & Peter Weil, Jared Kelly, and Jerard Palazo.
