Fonte’s full-length world premiere, Beasts, explores the complexities of nature versus nurture. Based on tabula rasa, the idea that each person begins as a blank slate from which experiences shape and mold humanity, Fonte’s choreography investigates the dramatic contrasts between learned behavior and primal human instinct. With original sets by MacArthur Fellow Mimi Lien, this new work promises to stretch movement to its expressive limits.
A daring and unique dancemaker, Fonte has created work for many companies including Dutch National Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Stuttgart Ballet, in addition to being Resident Choreographer for Ballet West. His inventive fusion of ideas, movement, and design creates a signature dance language praised as “highly original… fluid and complex, and exhilarating to watch” (Dance Europe). Taking a bold new approach to the traditional story ballet, Beasts will bring audiences a dance experience they will never forget.
