BalletX presents its Fall Series 2019 with two world premieres by choreographers Matthew Neenan and Jo Strømgren.
The New York Times has named Neenan “one of the most appealing and singular choreographic voices in ballet today.” His new holiday-inspired ballet, Twelve Bells, is co-created with composers Rosie Langabeer and Tara Middleton, who will perform music live onstage with the BalletX dancers and musician Joshua Machiz. The work features sets by Maiko Matsushima and costumes by Christine Darch. Watch the promo video here.
Jo Strømgren’s work, known for its multi-disciplinary gusto, has been described by The Boston Globe as “conjuring the poetic flight of a butterfly.” His new ballet, The Moon, follows two astronauts racing to return home to Earth in time for the holidays despite engine trouble on their spaceship. The ballet is set to the music of Mette Henriette, and features NASA footage via video installation by Jorge Cousineau, and costumes by Martha Chamberlain. Watch the promo video here.
