BalletX is thrilled to announce a limited Open Class series led by our very own company dancers! For five weeks, January 26-March 1, dance into the new year with dynamic classes designed to challenge, inspire, and energize.
Developed in the 1940s by Lester Horton, the Horton Technique features detailed modern exercises that challenge and sculpt the body. Led by Ailey-trained dancer Ashley Simpson, this Horton class will establish a framework of movement mechanics, coordination, phrasing, rhythm and musicality. In this class, we will warm up with Horton exercises such as tendus, flatbacks, primitive squats and release swings, before being led to the floor for deep lunges and abdominal strengthening, and then onto rhythmic and exciting combinations at the center and across the floor. Leave the socks and ballet shoes at home as we will be dancing in bare feet. This class is designed for advance beginner students with prior experience in dance, but who may be new to the fundamentals of Horton technique.
