Colombian-Belgian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa returns to BalletX for an evening length World Premiere inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince. Universally adored by children and adults, this classic story of adventure and enlightenment follows an aviator downed in the desert, and his life-changing encounter with the mysterious Little Prince. The production features music composed and performed live by Peter Salem, sets by Matt Saunders, costumes by Danielle Truss, lighting by Michael Korsch, and dramaturgy provided by Nancy Meckler.
Lopez Ochoa has created four previous works on BalletX: 2016’s Bonzi, 2011’s Castrati and Bare, and 2008’s Still@Life. She has choreographed on over 50 companies, including Dutch National Ballet, Ballet Nacional Dominicano, English National Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, San Francisco Ballet, and New York City Ballet. Dance Europe Magazine named her recent works Ecdysis and Last Resistance the Best Premieres of 2017 and 2018 respectively, and Dance Magazine included her interpretation of A Streetcar Named Desire in its Best of Dance 2017 rundown. In 2019, Lopez Ochoa was named the recipient of the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award.
